System RAM provides working memory for the operating system, applications and games. The amount you need depends on what you run simultaneously, not just the name of the application.
What happens when RAM is insufficient?
When available memory becomes constrained, the operating system can move data between RAM and storage. This can increase latency and contribute to slower application response or inconsistent frame times.
16GB vs 32GB
For many general gaming and everyday systems, 16GB can be a practical baseline. Larger game libraries, mods, streaming, browser tabs, creative applications and multitasking can increase the usefulness of 32GB or more.
RAM is not the same as VRAM
System RAM and graphics memory serve different roles. A graphics card uses VRAM for textures, frame buffers and other graphics data, while system RAM supports the CPU and operating system.
Check before upgrading
Monitor actual memory usage during your normal workload. Also verify motherboard support, memory type, capacity limits and the recommended configuration before purchasing a kit.
